In No Time to Die, Lashana Lynch (Nomi) is given Bond’s licence to kill. She is not the new Bond, but rather a new character who inherits his MI6 secret agent number after he departs. Lynch, a daughter of Jamaican parents, is proud of her background, which has helped her understand her role in a Bond film set in the country of her parents and grandparents. Lynch stated that her strong, cheeky, and witty character emerged and took shape early. Mainly as a result of conversations and collaborations with writer-director Cary Fukunaga and writer Phoebe Waller-Bridge, about her historic role as the first black female 007 with a licence to kill. Lynch believes it is vital for young black girls to understand the sensitive aspect of her character, Nomi, as well as the fact that she is a superhero, because she epitomises the strong black woman in many ways. Lynch is a British actress best known for her roles in Still Star-Crossed and Captain Marvel as fighter pilot Maria Rambeau.
